The 135° bend, the bent starting post and the 2 pcs 90° bends for the 180° bend on the landing – in the pictures at the bottom - have been custom made like in following link:
Short radius curved handrail parts - Bendywood®
Inner radius of the landing 180° bend had to be 30 mm only for space reasons
and that was too short to produce it in 1 piece.
For this reason this bend was produced from 2 bends 90° with R30 mm, connected to 1 pcs 180° bend on side when the handrails was mounted.
Bendywood® handrails have been supplied pre-bent fixed on bending moulds, like on following image:
Handrails have been over-bent for about 30% to compensate the spring back when taken from the moulds.
Please see following link: Spring-back after being taken from the moulds (bendywood.com)
How were the handrail parts connected to each other?
Handrail parts have been connected with closed butt joints using 20 cm long dowels with Ø 10 mm and white glue D4, to prevent shrinkages, as Bendywood® shrink in length much more than normal wood.
For more details see on following link: Handrail mounting (bendywood.com)
After assembly, a water based hard wax oil was applied,
such as the "Renner wood-oil YS---M009 with 5% hardener YC M402" of the Tonet AG
